Lake Ägeri Cruise
The boat crew and the Gastro Ägerisee team are looking forward to welcoming you on board. Discover some exciting destinations and information on a round-the-lake cruise on Lake Ägeri.
Lake Ägeri is situated at 724 m above sea level. It has a circumference of over 14 kilometres, making it an ideal training route for marathon runners. Surrounded by idyllic countryside, Lake Ägeri is a popular destination. The first steamboat sailed on Lake Ägeri as early as 1890, and we are proud to continue this tradition with MS Ägerisee.
Unterägeri
With 8,700 residents, Unterägeri is the largest village on Lake Ägeri. The village used to be called Wylen. On the cruise from Unterägeri to Oberägeri, you'll notice a traditional little rust-red house. This used to be a bath house that belonged to the Theresien-Heim, which was well-known throughout Switzerland as a convalescent home for children with lung diseases. These days, the building serves as an exhibition space for handicrafts.
Oberägeri
After Unterägeri, we will dock at Oberägeri jetty. Oberägeri is the oldest village in the valley and had a church as early as 876. The late Gothic parish church you see today dates back to 1492. From Oberägeri, we can reach the Ratenpass route, situated at 1077 m above sea level. The Raten offers beautiful hiking trails, such as the Panoramaweg trail, which traverses the hills of Lake Ägeri. It is a popular hiking and recreation area all year round for all ages. In winter, the Raten transforms into a small but pleasant skiing area that the whole family can enjoy.
Ägeribad pool is situated right on Lake Ägeri in Oberägeri. It is one of the best leisure pools in Switzerland, featuring a 25-metre indoor pool with 8 lanes, an adjustable-depth learners’ pool and an outdoor pool with a fantastic view of Lake Ägeri. In addition, the spacious spa area and its various saunas and massage services invite you to relax.
Ländli
The Ländli is a large building in Morgarten on the shore of Lake Ägeri. It is run by the Evangelical Sisterhood of Deaconesses (evangelische Schwesterschaft der Diakonissinnen). The seminar house has stood since 1926 and was previously run by the Ländli Sisterhood as a convalescent house. Today it is a church-oriented seminar hotel that offers its guests relaxation for the body and soul.
Eierhals
The Eierhals hotel restaurant runs its own commercial fishing business, meaning the restaurant can offer fresh fish from Lake Ägeri every day. The lake char, or Röteli, which are very much at home in Lake Ägeri, are especially popular. Röteli is a red-bellied char. Perhaps you're wondering how "Eierhals" got its name? It comes from the nickname "Heier-Hals", which in turn comes from the cheerful miller who had a mill here on the stream. Every morning, when he started the mill wheel, his joyous whooping could be heard from miles away. Back then, a whoop was known as a "Heier", so the cheerful miller was given the nickname "Heier-Hals", which has remained with the property to this day.
Morgarten monument
The Morgarten monument stands in remembrance of the Battle of Morgarten on 15 November 1315. The monument is not located at the site of the battle but two kilometres south of it, because the people of Zug and Schwyz were unable to come to an agreement when it was constructed in 1908. In the battle, the Swiss used stones and logs to prevent the Habsburgs under Duke Leopold from entering the Schwyz area and ultimately drove them out. The Morgarten shooting display has taken place at the monument on 15 November for over 100 years. 1,500 shooters from across Switzerland take part. From the monument, the pretty Morgarten trail leads to the information centre in Schornen. The Morgarten trail is a themed trail with seven audio stations about the court jester Kuoni von Stockach, Werner Stauffacher and the knight Heinrich von Hünenberg. The information centre in the hamlet of Schornen was opened in 2015. It is a modern, interactive museum that explains the significance of the Battle of Morgarten in the past and the present. It's well worth a visit.
Hotel Morgarten
Various mountains such as Morgartenberg, Mostelberg, Engelstock, Chaiserstock, Wildspitz, Gnipen and Zugerberg surround Lake Ägeri. In the distance, you can see the snow-covered Uri Alps and the magnificent Uri Rotstock mountain. The family-friendly Sattel-Hochstuckli region is a real highlight. The Mostelberg is a children's paradise with a toboggan run, tubing run and a huge bouncy castle. Thrill-seekers can test their nerves by crossing the 374 metre-long "Skywalk" suspension bridge. The Mostelberg can be reached from the village of Sattel by taking the rotating gondola. There are many pleasant circular hiking trails and good mountain restaurants on the Mostelberg.
Naas
The tradition of timber rafting continues on Lake Ägeri to the present day. 55 hectares of mountain woodland is located on the southern side of Lake Ägeri. This is difficult for the forestry sector to access. Around every four years, more than 200 tree trunks are put together to create a triangular raft after logging in winter. The raft is around 170 metres long and weighs up to 1,000 tonnes. Two motorboats pull it across the lake to Oberägeri or Unterägeri, where the 100-year-old trunks are loaded onto trucks. It's a huge spectacle attended by many spectators and journalists from all over Europe.
Naas is a popular place for hikers to disembark. A pretty trail leads along the lake to Unterägeri. It's perfect for families looking for a short trip at the weekend.
